   Arrived with the back top corner bent – seems like everyone gets it delivered damaged. Has no bearing on functionality and I’m using it in the garage as an overflow freezer from inside the house. Unit is not noisy when the compressor is running, makes a slight humm but that’s it. The shelves (2) are not adjustable as they have cooling coils in them. All in all this is a great little freezer – freezes thing fast and does the job.

   I love this little freezer. It’s not tiny, it actually has a bit of room in it – perfect for my needs of a large bag of ice, a few frozen dinners, and 3 or 4 other things. You could cram in about double that amount with some planning. The freezer arrived well-packaged. After unpacking I plugged it in and it just started working. It is quiet and has been working perfectly ever since. It is lightweight, you can change the side of the door opening if you want (I didn’t), and easy to keep clean. My only wish is that it had automatic defrost, but alas, you get what you pay for. But this is a great value for the price.

   This is an additional review of the freezer. I have had it now for about eight months and defrosted it. It is a real joy. So simple and fast with defrosting. All you do is turn off the current or set the control to zero and put a large pan of hot water inside and close the door. In no time it is completely defrosted. Just dry out the interior with a large towel. See earlier review below.

   This freezer arrived quite damaged. This is the SECOND one that came damaged from Amazon. The first was from another seller on Amazon. I am quite sure that both of these from different sellers were damaged before shipment. They buy these units damaged at a very cheap price. They in turn put them on Amazon and hope that the buyer will accept them in the condition they are received. This unit arrived with a huge big dent in one side and the door post that holds the door was so bent out of shape that the door wouldn’t even begin to close. Fortunately for me I had a very nice UPS driver that helped me take it out of the carton and set it up on a shelf where I wanted it. I have back problems and he was very nice to do this. He took it upon himself to straighten out the door hinge piece and kept working with it and finally was able to get the door to close. It arrived this badly. I contacted Amazon customer service and spoke with a very nice woman and an adjustment was made for the unit arriving the way it did. I am living with the huge dent on the side but after the UPS guy fixed the door, the unit is working fine.

   The freezer seems to be well made enough but I doubt seriously that it is a 3 cubic foot freezer inside. It is the same size outside as an old Philco freezer I bought in 1984 that has lasted all these years until recently and is a 3 cubic foot freezer. The Philco is bigger inside and also has a basket. Still, this unit runs quietly and so far has kept things nicely frozen. I would give it a five star if it was bigger inside and had a basket for the bottom section. Also, the temperature control inside and the coils make it smaller. The old Philco had all the coils and control on the back side of the unit.

   For what it is, I do think it well worth having if you can deal with what I have said above.

   When my laundry room was finally ready to put the freezer in, and it came out of the box, the door edge had a flaw on it. And the only big complaint I have is how quickly the top shelf had ice on it. We used to have a refrigerator size freezer in our laundry room before with no ice problems. And when I am doing laundry, I always leave the door open.

   But overall, I would 100% say it does a great job, especially for a small freezer.

   Excellent little appliance! I was apprehensive after reading several negative reviews before buying this. Those low ratings were a small percentage of the posted reviews, but they were consistently citing shipping damage and noisy operation. I am delighted to report that my freezer was not damaged… despite the presence of a large hole in the box, and the fact that the delivery truck driver ignored the “UP” arrows on the carton. The package was upside down when I received it! I followed the instructions in the manual and allowed the unit to sit in its new location for 4 hours before plugging it in. With the temp selector set to “4” the interior temperature was down to 20 degrees F in about 30 minutes. It’s been running now for 24 hours and I can honestly say that it makes no perceptible noise at all.

   I originally worte and review that I feel compelled to edit. The score has not change though if I could I would change to no stars. When I received this freezer, there was a small dent which was ok. Door scraped a little on the hinge when you open or close it..ok. The killer. The motor or whatever it is, is super loud. Sounded like a buzz saw as soon as I plugged it in. I was genuinely startled. When it shut off it is fine but when it kicks in, the noise is way too much. Its like a loud grinding sound. I was going to wait a couple of days to see how often it kicks on and if I can bear it but by that night I knew there was no way. I cannot believe how loud it is. I unplugged it and did the return on Amazon. The only good thing was that Amazon picked it up the very next day.
   So, I still needed a freezer so I decided to roll the dice on Samsclub.com. I figured I could just drop it off at the nearest Sams if it sucked like the Magic Chef. The one I bought is brand name Midea. Not a brand I am familiar with. Paid $275, which was $100 more than the Magic Chef. Size is better then Magic Chef, way more room. Then I plugged it in. I kid you not, I thought it was not working because I didnt hear a thing. Finally, I put a bottle of water in it because I just couldnt tell if it was on. When I checked back in a few hours and the water was frozen solid, I knew I had a keeper. I also knew I would come on here and warn everyone away from the horrendous Magic Chef!!! I cannot vouch for the long term performance of the Midea because I have only had it a very short time but I am way happier that I was, the day I plugged in that Magic Chef.
