This freezer looks really nice, and everything is working great so far. This is pretty much the best deal for a frost free, built-in, under counter freezer in stainless steel that I could find in this 24” size range (i.e., the size of a dishwasher). Definitely cheaper than anything comparable from U-line or Sub Zero.
Some pointers that I thought might be useful to someone looking into this model:
– It’s not energy star certified, and it does have a slightly audible hum occasionally. The hum usually comes on right after you open the door. It’s louder than my primary refrigerator/freezer, but the hum is definitely not a problem. I can’t hear it from more than 10-15 feet away, or anywhere outside the kitchen. Also, according to the manufacturer, it’s designed for either commercial or residential use.
– I thought built-in meant this could be installed flush. That’s not the case. The freezer has air vents on the front and on the back of the cabinet. The instructions state that the freezer requires 2” of clearance on the back for air ventilation, and ¼” on all other sides.
-It comes with a lock installed on the bottom center of the door, and two keys. The keys are just Allen wrenches.
-The measurements are 34” high x 23 5/8” wide, and 23 5/8” (or 21 ¾” deep cabinet plus 1 7/8” deep door). The base has 4 legs, and the legs can add about an additional 1 1/2” in height to the fridge. If you removed the legs, that would subtract about ¼” in height, but you need the 1/4” clearance for air circulation.
-It has 3 metal freezer racks. The cool thing is you can pull out the racks like a drawer, to better see what’s inside.
-The door is slightly smaller than the cabinet base, the top of the door hinge is flush with the cabinet base. This way the door hinge does not stick out above the clearance for the cabinet base. The door does not open fully, it only opens to about 100 – 110 degrees. I think this is intentional so that the door does not hit the side of the cabinet.
-The freezer exhausts a fair amount of hot air on the front air vent. If you touch the front grill it’s warm to the touch.
-The freezer comes with the door pre-installed swinging on the right. It also comes with a left-side hinge, and the nuts/bolts to install the hinge left-sided. The door handle comes uninstalled (it’s inside the freezer, and the freezer door has mounting holes pre-drilled on both sides of the door for right or left side installation. So this freezer can be installed to open on the left or right side, no additional parts needed.
– It has two LED lights inside, and a digital control panel. The control panel has a “super freeze” button, to rapidly cool the freezer, to use, for example, if you put soup or something hot in it.
-It also has an audible alarm if you leave the door open, or if the temperature gets too high. I’ve noticed that the freezer rights slightly cold – I have it set to 0* F, but I put two freezer thermometers inside and they’re both consistently reading -4* F.
-The suction is very strong. When you pull the door open, the freezer moves forward slightly. I put a little wood block in front between the leg and the lip of the cabinet base to stop it from moving.

enoght space for a fridge of this size.

Don’t be fooled by the “stainless steel” freezer. Only the DOOR is stainless steel. This is definitely not said in the advertising. The sides are black. Unfortunately for us, the freezer side shows in our undercounter layout. This will be the last Summit freezer that we purchase.
PS: Our last Summit freezer lasted only 8 years.

I’ve has this for only a few days. So far two things: There is a pretty large “Summit” logo on the door. This wasn’t in the photos posted by the seller and certainly not a selling point for me. Second, the suction is so great than when the door is opened, the whole freezer moves forward. That’s in another review, and it’s annoying. Will try to figure out how to stop that.

We have to clear the ice build up every other day as it stops cooling when it does

As advertised. Lots of shelf space

GREAT extra freezer! Arrived on time, packed really well on a pallet. The delivery service wheeled it all the way up my long driveway into the garage. We brought it in and it’s been working very well. It has spacious shelves and the freezer fits nicely under the counter in our laundry room. So great to not have to defrost our second freezer any more!

We bought a similar freezer (this is the replacement model for that one) for our lower level when building our house. The “thing” quit working after four years. Can not be repaired. Do we spend this much money to replace the old one, or trust that the new model will last longer.?? Not pleased with the Summit brand, to say the least.
