Just unpacked the unit (packaged very well) and plugged it in. Within minutes both sides of the mini-freezer reached temperatures very close to 120 degrees. Speaking with the manufacturer I was told that this is normal as it is a free-standing unit (never knew that “free-standing” equates to very hot dies). They also told me that if in a garage without A/C in Florida (where I am) it will certainly overheat. I do wish the Amazon description had that information! Am now struggling to return that unit without having to pay for shipment (long and expensive way from Florida to California!), and Amazon promised to help. I will wait and see, but thought it important ot share this information before others make the purchase of a poorly described product. I have no comments either way about how well it might work.
UPDATE: while seller and Amazon agree to the return, they both insist that I pay for pick-up of a very heavy item, insurance, transportation (from Florida to California) and re-stocking fees – this in spite of the fact that seller and Amazon failed to post proper SAFETY WARNINGS BEFORE BUYING on the web site. If I had ignored the significant heat build-up the manufacturer himself indicates that it could lead to fires.
